Marimekko Silkkikuikka Fabric Repeat
The Marimekko Silkkikuikka fabric uses wavy lines and cresting chevrons to abstractly depict the proud movements of a water bird. Finnish for “great crested grebe”, the Silkkikuikka print employs cool-tones such as royal purple, navy blue and teal to achieve a soothing water-themed print. Designed in 1961 by textile artist Maija Isola, the grebe is an excellent swimmer and Isola expertly captured feelings of water, plumage and flight in this thoughtfully designed pattern. Separated into color-blocked panels, create small throw pillows to large wall hangings from this soothing print.
