Settled in Oaxaca, Mexico, Studio Xaquixe ("At the Base of the Mountain") produces handblown forms of functional glass art using upcycled materials and alternative energy. Because of this unique origin, each piece varies slightly in color and form, lending the story of the artisan who crafted it. The studio pioneers the use of biofuel, specifically vegetable oil waste from frying food, as the primary energy source instead of propane. This eliminates CO2 emission almost entirely. In doing so, Studio Xaquixe is fulfilling its mission to create high-quality pieces with original designs, reducing environmental footprints, enriching the culture of its community locally and increasing the appreciation for glass as an art form worldwide.
